Flash Floods, Tornado Warning Batter Lincoln; Power Outages Reported

A flash flood warning has been issued for the Lincoln area, set to last until 2:45 a.m. Nearly 1.5 inches of rain poured down at the Lincoln Airport between 11 a.m. and midnight, according to reports.

The heavy rain has led to significant flooding across the city. Emergency scanner traffic noted severe water accumulation in various locations, including the Haymarket, the 48th Street and Cornhusker Highway underpass, and an apartment complex near 56th and O streets.

Several vehicles have become stranded in the floodwaters in north Lincoln, as indicated by scanner communications.

Just before midnight, the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Lincoln, which expired at 12:15 a.m. A tornado was confirmed near Pioneers Park around midnight. The storm, which approached Lincoln from the southwest, seemed capable of producing a tornado, though it remains uncertain if it caused any damage in rural Lancaster County before reaching Lincoln.

Additionally, power outages have affected approximately 4,900 Lincoln residents, based on Lincoln Electric System’s outage map as of 12:35 a.m.
