WhatsApp to Introduce ‘Imagine Me’ Feature for Creating Personalized Images with Meta AI
WhatsApp has recently broadened the availability of its Meta AI chatbots in specific regions, including India and the US, and it seems the instant messaging platform is now focusing on new AI-driven features. According to reports, WhatsApp is working on a novel ‘Imagine Me’ feature that will enable users to generate AI-generated photos of themselves. This update has been identified in the latest beta release of WhatsApp for Android, which can be accessed through the Google Play Beta program.
Feature tracker WABetaInfo has uncovered that WhatsApp is developing an optional feature allowing users to create personalized images using Meta AI. When users opt into this feature, they may be prompted to upload a few reference selfies to get started.
WABetaInfo found indications of the upcoming ‘Imagine Me’ AI-based feature in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.14.13 available via the Google Play Beta program. The feature is still in the development phase and cannot be tested yet by installing this beta version of WhatsApp on an Android device.
How WhatsApp’s New AI Feature Will Function

The report includes a screenshot showing the new option and hints at how the feature might look when it becomes available. After users upload a set of photos, the Meta AI chatbot will generate new AI-created images. Users can request these images by typing “Imagine me” in the Meta AI chat window, or by entering “@Meta AI imagine me” in other chats.
According to the screenshot, users will have the ability to choose from a range of backgrounds and locations, from “the forest to outer space,” for their images. This feature is expected to facilitate the creation of customized stickers, and users may also have the option to delete their uploaded selfies via settings, as noted by WABetaInfo.
The new AI image-generating feature is expected to be optional and will likely require users to enable it in their settings. It is anticipated to be released in a future update, as reported by the feature tracker.
Meta AI, which is the company’s competitor to ChatGPT, began its rollout in India last month. Beyond WhatsApp, the chatbot powered by the Llama 3 large language model is also available on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.
